We have a hopefully chastened Republican Party that desperately needs money and support. With up to 40 liberal Congressional seats up for grabs this coming election, they can only completely fund one.

They might well go with really conservative candidates that seemed to have some means of financial support and enthusiastic backers.

Enter us, if we can find presentable, marketable candidates who could bring in the conservative independents and center-right Republicans.

The best idea I’ve heard is the one about cutting the Federal budget to one Trillion dollars, no more than what it was during G.W. Bush’s first year. Do that and we could eliminate the Federal Income Tax.

To do it, we would have to forbid Congress from giving the states any money at all, other than for national security and reasonable interstate police functions.

Sure I’d have to pay 8% to 10% State taxes, but I wouldn’t have to pay 28% Federal taxes, I have a lot more control over State spending, and I’d be ahead a lot of money.

Throw in a retroactive elimination of all unfunded Federal mandates to the states, to reduce bureaucracy and cost at the state level, and it sounds simple, reasonable, and a winner.

An awful lot of people would be attracted, virtually everyone who works for a living. It’s only a first step, but it beats making pompous statements and stocking up food and ammo for a civil war that will never come.
